hey guys, i'm looking at a discovery, i had one a few months back but sold it to a friend. the one im looking at the guys says it smokes when u first start it then clears, he says this is to do with the fact he run it on red dei

diesel, jus wondered if anyone had any ideas?

thanks in advance

just be very careful with it having run on red diesel as the lines and tank will have the acid marker still present and if the Disco gets dipped by customs at any time it will be confiscated

Here is a story to idle away a Thursday afternoon. Red diesel smells different over here when it burns and the cops, who are also the customs and the prison service, and the traffic Police/Highways agency ( Not much of a control issue ) can smell it when they pull you over. Red diesel is sold only at garages, Its a special pump under lock and key and you need to show your red diesel licence to buy it. OK if you have a tractor/JCB etc. But if you have a diesel cement mixer you cant take it to the garage. So you put a 50 litre drum in the back of the pickup and draw what you need for work " at the site". Then you get home and pour it in your car/ van etc. Works fine until you get pulled by the Greenshirts. No tests involved. Just the smell. Your busted. Car taken away, massive fine, life in ruins. No court case. No right of appeal. Franco is dead but his legacy lives on.

If there aint red diesel in it if he gets pulled they cant do jack can they

If the vehicle has ever been run on red it will permanetly show up for the rest of time!

A friend has had his car confiscated after the previous oner used red. He got the car back, but only after a 4 figure fine was paid.

Red diesel is the same as white just with a dye in it.
Makes no difference to the way the engine runs or smokes or smells. If there is no red in it when its dipped your in the clear.
As for getting caught the fine is about £500 and your vehicle is returned to you when you pay.
Nearly all you hear about red diesel is bollocks.

A mates father and his brother got " grassed up " for running their motors on red.

They had their vehicles siezed and were fined a large percentage of each vehicles value.

The Revenue also looked back at all thier accounts to the point where there diesel costs where higher, and fined them a percentage of all the diesel they had bought from that point.

It was thousands and thousands.

If I knew I was only going to get a £ 500 fine if caught, I,d be on red in the Disco and the van !.

This was a while ago, so things may well have changed today.

Del.
