Hello, I've just joined the forum as i have a problem with my Landy. I refueled my landrover 200tdi a couple of weeks ago, filling it to the neck as i had a 10p a litre off voucher from Tesco's. About 6-8 miles down the road it started to smoke, not to much on tick over, but more if it was revved. It still drove ok, so i drove it the 6 miles home.
As i had just refueled it, and more in the tank than previously i decided to drain the tank first, just in case the fuel was contaminated. I fitted a new fuel filter and put in a couple of gallons of new diesel.I also removed all the induction pipes from the turbo to the intercooler and back to the inlet manifold in case the rubber hoses were holed or split. All seemed good so i cleaned them and replaced. I also checked the small pressure pipe from the turbo outlet to the injection pump for damage, but all seemed good. On start up it still smoked badly when revved [this is a white smoke, not blue]
So now i decided to check the injection pump timing in case something had moved [i had fitted a new belt 1000 miles ago]. Again all seemed good.
So now I'm wondering if it could be an injector, but before i go any farther is there anything else i should be checking? and could the injectors be checked in position one at a time to see if the smoking stops?
.

I had the same issue occasionally with my 200tdi defender, after a while it stopped (smoking that is!) and I assumed (rightly or wrongly) that it was probably a sticking valve.

Just an update, it might help someone else.
I removed all the glowplugs and cylinder number 3 plug was oily. Tested the glowplugs, all worked ok. So guessed the problem was either unburnt fuel or engine oil via the rings or valve guide oil seal. Did a compression test, all cylinders were between 250 - 260 P.S.I. Hoping the problem was the fuel injector i ordered a new one, but in the meantime i looked at a you tube video on how to strip and clean a 200TDI injector. As there appeared not a lot to it i stripped it down and found the nozzle badly blocked. 4 holes sprayed poorly in all directions, and the other not at all. So i purchased a large bottle of diesel injector cleaner and left the nozzle and needle to soak in it for several days. The 4 holes were now spraying evenly, but still one was blocked. So i pushed a piece of tight fitting plastic pipe over the nozzle and put compressed air through it to blow the obstruction back through the nozzle. It worked and all 5 holes now spraying well. I reassembled the stripped and cleaned injector and refitted to the Landy. On start up there was an immediate improvement, but still smoking. The smoking gradually decreased as i drove around and the engine got up to temperature. I have not been out again since, but I'm sure the problem is solved. I am awaiting the arrival of new nozzles and will replace all of them as the ones fitted could well be the originals. Should run better than ever then, with hopefully better fuel consumption.

Let us know the outcome.

I bought a cheap ultrasonic cleaner off Amazon about£35 cleaned the injectors on my 200tdi engine nicely and squired some wd40 in nozzle just to check spray pattern , your engine pressures about the same I measured too
Have the new ones made it better , t(e smoking could have been some residual oil in the cylinder until it burnt off

During the summer months run a 50/50 mix of dino diesel and straight veggie oil in the fuel tank, change the fuel filter a couple of times till you need to tank up again ... it'll clean your fuel system out a treat and give some needed lube to the top end ...
