Hi all my 2.5 tdi sometimes emits a plume of smoke when I accelerate is there a problem? ta.

only seems to happen when I floor it,[ha ha] Ive noticed it 2 or 3 times in the last 6 months.

Drive it as hard as you can to blow the **** out, (that is if you are a driver that tends to be a bit lightfooted most of the time).
Diesels can soot up a bit if you pussy foot about.
If you do that and it cures it, all well and good.
If something breaks then you might just have found the cause......

Failing that, chop it in for a V8 and gas it, if that smokes then you KNOW you got a problem. :D

O.K. chaps, think Ive got the message. By the way can I convert a TDI to gas? I'm sure Ive seen it on here.

'plume' 'augment' ? have you heard us ? looks like an episode of QI .ha ha cheers for the advce anyway, greatly appreciated.

coor,

Ive only just got my first 4x4 (disco)

Im scared to give it hard throttle,,,,, keep thinking it will blow up!

My dad keeps saying to me them diesels are bullet proof, you wont hurt it the only thing youll hurt if your wallet with going to the fuel station all the time

Some diesels do chuck out black smoke when you put your foot down. We've got a Sherpa with a Ford direct injection motor that always has, from new. Black smoke is unburnt fuel or, as said above, general dislodged crud. Could be a choked air filter, could be an injection problem. It's unlikely to be serious unless it fails the MoT. You might find that using BP ultimate or bio-diesel improves things, as they burn cleaner.
