Hi ye land rover owners.
I have a Range Rover 1999 with 2.5 BMW ENGINE which was replaced last week. It now burns oil like an oil rig.
The engine sounds fine it has 66,000 on it and has lots of power.
Could it be the valve oil seals? By the way the smoke smells like sump oil.

more likely to be turbo seals. What colour is the smoke? how much? when does it smoke?

66000 miles the chances of valve seals leaking are minimum unless the engine as been flushed out with diesel to clean it, easy way to check the turbo is remove the bigg rubber pipe off the end if it is burning oil thru the turbo you should see oil on the fins inside the turbo.

sure way to tell is the day when you cant stop the ****er when it decideds that sump oil is as good as diesel to run on  if it does this stick in top and hold the brakes and try to stall her if that fails get the bonnet open fast as poss and strangle the air intake pipe the best you can.

yes that happened to me in the wifes citroen on the m5 , batman style smokescreen behind , loss of 90% of power and it carried on running on the sump oil once i had taken the keys out ....shat myself and cost me £1200 to get repaired.
