The pipe that connects to cam cover was missing, replacement came today. The other large one looks fine I think.

So I had very noticeable smoke coming out of the dip stick tube. So vacuum pressure wouldn't allow that smoke to come out . No need to manometer it up right?

So replacement PCV correct?

I would replace the pipe and then check using the latex glove over the dipstick and if you still have pressure I would perform a compression test.

If that comes back ok then i would be looking at PCV valve as the compression test is easier than the valve replacement.

I have a problem with what i think is a blocked CAT or CATs as sometimes I get a leak from one cam cover and sometimes its fine. It is only my theory which could be way off but i think if the exhast blocks then when the exhaust valve opens, if the gas cant escape down the exhaust it will try and get up the valve stem. Other issues such as a sticky lifter preventing the valve closing is another theory.

In your case i would replace all the pipework and make sure the vacuum pipes are connected to the back of the PCV valve, test with glove, test compression then possibly leak down test.

And as @myfirstl322 says i would use youtube and link to the forum for sharing videos
