in preperation for an impending MOT, today I changed the rear brake shoes and drums on my 90. When I had fitted the drum I couldn't slacken the shoes off enough to turn the drum. My drive is on a slope so I checked that it would roll back with just the weight of the vehicle and it did, so I did the other side (same problem) then took it for a test drive.
Stops better than ever and not as much travel in the pedel, the only thing is that when I got it home I could smell the brakes had been overheating.
Is this just the fact that they are new or Have I cocked up somewhere?

Check to see if the wheel will rotate freely now. It could be that the new shoes just needed bedding in, but I doubt it.
Did you chamfer the leading edges of the shoes?

if the wheels dont spin freely, find a bit of clear straight road and brake from 40 ish down to a stop 5 or 6 times to get them bedded and settled

Over adjustment by the sounds of it m8 , or the shoes not seated correctly in the slave cylinder slots or the lower yokes . I wouldnt go driving around too much with them dragging that much you'll glaze the hell out of your shoes and new drums .
