hi all,

i've had my series 3 88 (2 1/4 diesel) for just over a month now. i 've getting concerned just how little acceleration it has for 10-15 mins after its started ( pretty much until the water temp gauge has reached the middle). i wouldn't say its Sh*t off a shovel after that but nor would i expect it to be!

my real question is: is this just an old land rover thing that i'll have to get used to or does it sound more like a fault? i'll be changing the injectors over next time i have some cash but is there anything else i should look for?

i've been thinking about electric fans- i'm an electronic engineering student so some kind of variable dynamic control wouldn't be a problem?

any thoughs or comments greatly appreciated.

welcome to the world of the diesel powered series landrover in cold weather. (mines got a transit engine in it but even that takes an age to warm up when its cold ).possible the injectors etc would benefit from a over haul ,but the 2 /1/4 diesel is over cooled for our climate ,specialy if its only doing short runs ,electric fan is a big help ,in my old series i had a tap in the top hose to restrict the flow for wintertime ,but i only used to do a bout 4 miles to work so it never got near to warm lol

how much of a difference does the transit engine make? i've been looking at swaping mine out once the dreaded MOT is out of the way in march.

i'll get the injectors and the fans swapped out in the upcoming weeks i think. one of the bearings in the water pump is squealing and trying to irritate me in to having a look in that area anyway.

thanks for the help.

difference ????? ,well its about as powerful as a landy diesel, noisier ,plenty of low torque with the gearing i have (standard defender axles (afaik) and an overdrive, starts first turn of the key (no glow plugs d.i. see)fastest ive had it up to was just short of 65, indicated 70 mph i rekkon allowing for the 7.50 tyres i run ,

ohh and itll do 35 mpg ,all day on road/off road ,and they run hotter than a landy engine so your heater will work too lol

i suppose spares aren't a problem either. how hard is it to mate them with the series gear box?

also which fans did you use with the orgional engine- i was looking at something like a mondeo fan assembly?
