As title suggests I came to drive the disco today and the sls was fully raised and didn't want to start. Got it started tried going to 30 to see if auto dropped height no luck tried going off road mode just beeped didn' change height.
Am I right in suspecting sensors? No sag on either side both equally raised no compressor startup
Recommndations to fix? Assuming release pressure on a join somewhere wheel off and swap sensor? Does batt need disconnecting cos ecu? Will it auto reset if fix or need diagnostic? (Live in notts if anyone local has one?) Or is it easier to just fix springs and change it from sls mode
I had a quick look at the sensors there's no obvious cracks didn't' want to poke around too much with bags pressured though

Cheers!

After changing bags and sensors and compressor piston ring, mine worked fine for a while till the compressor packed in. Switched to springs and wouldn't know the difference. Total peace of mind.

This is what I was thinking. If it doesn't make alot of diffirence, cos springs are sorted.. for like ever haha. The sls is good but the bags always make me abit paranoid on long journeys. Could use the compressor on my defender rebuild too ooooh.
Never really have anyone in the back anyway.
Did you disconnect your compressor first then do the swap? Or just turn it off in the ecu?

You're going to need a compatible code reader, immaterial of what you decide to do.
I wouldn't change to steel springs until I'd discounted every possible causes of problems with the air suspension.
I don't know what you've got in mind for the compressor on your 'Fender rebuild, but it will never, ever inflate a tyre, it probably won't even give you enough air to use it on an air-brush.

Really? I assumed it would do a tyre no problem since the bags must have a fair bit of pressure in!
I'm hoping the reader at works garage will do it. It works on the new tdci defenders so hoping it'll read the disco.
Like I said the sensors don't have an obvious fault though when my friends went it had an obvious crack
Tempted to do bags and sensors. Seems a fair bit of money if it doesn't work though!

If your bags are holding the pressure then I'd say that the problem is elsewhere. It could well be with your ride height sensors or maybe wiring somewhere, but IMO you're going to need some compatible diagostics either way. A pair of ride height sensors should cost about 60 or 70 quid and a pair of bags are about 140 quid, easy enough to replace, but disconnect the battery before you disconnect the height sensors.

I reckon that steel springs should be an absolute last resort.

The compressor has a very small duty cycle and will only run for about 30 seconds before it needs to be switched off to cool down. If you've listened to your SLS inflating, it pumps in short bursts.

Regarding the diagnostics, please remember that the diesel Disco's didn't become compatible with OBDII protocols as used on modern scanners until mid-2004 with the release of the Disco 3. Previous diesel models used Land Rover's own protocols (for want of a better way of putting it) and that's why so many members on the forum keep talking about Nanocom, Hawkeye and Lynx for DIY use and Testbook T4 for professional users.

No luck with the diagnostic at work then hah! Was a long shot anyway. All this new fandangled computer trickery! Glad I brought the 300 nothing to go wrong on that!
I'll have to see if anyone has a reader near Notts then! There's a landy specialist down the road hopefully they won't want hundreds just to diagnose a fault!
I have noticed that actually pity!
Springs seemed a more direct fix, it's not a daily driver but this time of year when you need it it's usually too far to take a bus!

I used my lynx to turn off the air system. As the compressor had given up the ghost I don't think it mattered anyway.
