Slipping clutch........tut

2001 DSE

I fitted a new DMF and clutch about 6000 miles ago.

The missus says it started a few months back. I've not noticed it until today when it was bad.

I have a PSI fitted and when the turbo hits, the clutch is definitely slipping. The engine revs far too fast and the car does not accelerate fast enough. It's all very smooth.

It does it sometimes and sometimes not!

Could it be anything to do with the clutch hydraulics and if so ideas or experiences please?

Can something leak and contaminate the clutch?

I really don't fancy removing the gearbox again!

Was it an LUK clutch kit, i have had these with untempered fingers. Bloody pain in the arse.

Sure was LUK, both the clutch and the DMF.

I was under the impression that these were OEM parts?

Yes they are, but i had an LUK fail a few years ago because the diaphragm and fingers had not been heat treated. So it just shows anything can be bad these days. The quality control in the factories where these things are made, India, China is sometimes crap. Also it could have been a grey part made in a shadow factory and put in a genuine box. Lot of it about these days. You really don't know what your getting anymore.

I'm going to remove the PSI and see if it still slips, as it only does it on occasions when the turbo kicks in.

I'm going to sell the beast. I was thinking about it anyway.

A new clutch kit is only £120, but I don't fancy a days hard work under it in cold temps!

Clutch should still be under warranty surely.

I would have though the £120.00 for a new unit on top of getting to it is a little offputting. But a free replacement under warranty may have made the pill a little sweeter. Think it should be 24 months or 24,000 miles but there you go.
