Hello,

I have noticed a slight bubble of rust about 2 cm in width right below the windscreen (just below the bulkhead seal). Its not come through and mad e a hole it is just a bubble. Had anyone rapaired that section and any advice on doing so? I have seen alot of people saying "new bulkhead time" but it would be pointless to replace a bulkhead which is perfectly good elsewhere. Just want to make sure that patch doesn't spread too much.

Thanks
Kevin

Where abouts? Left? Middle? Right?

There's panels for the left and right, middle less so.

Best thing to do would be to grind down to good metal and see where you're at.
Might also be worth taking windscreen off and taking a look under seal. Get a new seal at same time as only a few quid.

Work out where the rust is coming from and work from there.

When you remove the windscreen frame you my be surprised just how much corrosion there is. This is a favourate rot-spot if not treated & sealed correctly and for any rust you can see, there will be much more you can't.

When I fitted a new bulkhead 12-years ago I made sure that apart from internal Waxoyl protection, the top rail was thoroughly coated with the stuff before the seal (the old rubber type, not the horrible modern foam-rubber thing) & frame were fitted. I removed the bulkhead for galvanising earlier this year and thanks to my work it was still in perfect condition, under the Waxoyl (still there doing its job) the metal & paint were perfect.

Thanks for the replies. The rust is on the passenger side of the windscreen and is right next to the windscreen hinge (on the inside of the hinge). Going to strip the dash down this weekend and have a look and see what I can see. I will post up some photos of my finding.

When you say replacement panels so you mean corner panels?

Thanks

Yes. That's a favourite spot for rust. You'll find that as you grind away, it may crumble.

Get the windscreen off too, and take a look (it's only 2 bolts!)

get some pictures up too
