This might sound silly but I can't find the answer any where else so thought I would try here.

I went to look at a defender 110 on friday and the bloke said it had a 300tdi lump in it, with me so far?

This is where I might sound silly but as that was the first landy I've looked at with a 300tdi in it I was wondering how much of the engine bay should the 300tdi lump take up?

The reason I ask is because I could have climbed into the engine bay with the engine and stood in front of the engine, between it and the rad and still would have had room to swing a fair sized kitten around in there and it just seemed very odd to me!

Ah ha! so I see

Its the fan housing that is missing, and maybe some other stuff too, any idea what that means? other than I doesn't have a fan that is!

300Tdi engines in their factory position sit further forward than the 200Tdi does. But if it's an older vehicle with a retrofit 300Tdi then it may well be in the rearward position which, combined with the lack of fan/cowling, would result in a big space in front of the engine.
