Sill to body seal?

Morning, can someone tell me what is supposed to seal this gap? 2005 TD5.

I was thinking about fitting later door bottom seals but no point when there is a 10mm gap on the inside of it!!!

I'd guess the sills aren't fitted properly.
Aftermarket chequered alloy ones on mine fitted many years ago but I'm sure the original tatty ones didn't have a gap like that.

I considered that maybe they should be a closer fit, but that there still must be some sort of seal to close the gap whether it's 1mm or 10mm!

By the later door seal I'm assuming you mean the lower one that attaches to the door itself rather than the sill on the early ones? Mine, 1985, had sill mounted seals but I fitted the later door ones , means drilling the door.
Should be easy enough to get the sills fitting closer then remove them if you still have a small gap and fit a strip of something suitable to make it sweet.
Closed cell camping mat is cheap for example.

Yes I have the later pressed doors so puma seals should fit easily. The sill lines up with the door nicely so if I move it inwards it may look odd. I reckon the best way will be to put a fat rubber seal in the gap!

There is adjustments everywhere, it depends how far you want to go really.
The sills proper, behind the cover sills have some movement as do the doors in and out. You could end up tearing your hair out for little gain.
Just looked at mine, aftermarket chequered plate, and no gap but they are slightly proud of the door bottoms but they look 'right'.

Could be your cover sills are poorly made maybe aftermarket?

Mine have a gap but not as big as that and have expanding foam in there, its been like that ever since I bought it when car was 2 years old. Its now 17 years old.

Both our TD5's have that gap between the sill and the body.
Our new one had some sort of foam seal in there, but it fell apart after a few years.

You could remove the sill cover and fit a replacement seal or run a bead of silicone into the gap.
The lower door seal fits against the body and not the sill on the TD5, so this foam seal between the body and sill won't make much difference to how effective the lower door seal is.

Yes, mine's like that too. I just left it because I assumed it was like that from the factory. Generally, I like plenty of fresh air and drainage in a Land Rover, rather than anything that encourages mud and moisture to remain against the metal for long periods.

Exactly, the foam based seal when fitted was almost always waterlogged in winter and it also trapped mud on top of it.

lf replacing it, l would either use silicone sealant or find a rubber seal that won't hold water.

The NS is much tighter, barely a gap. I've only just realised how you adjust the panels to close the gap (I think) by moving the inner sill outwards to meet the cover panel- yet to be attempted!

There are remnants of sealant visible, think I'll try to close the gap slightly and run a small bead of mastic along so it doesn't absorb water etc.
