I've done a search and found a few different threads relating to replacing sills on Discovery (97, 300TDi).
Having a poke around mine before it goes of for MOT, I found a hole in the rear passenger side sill. No problem, just patch it up and job's a good 'un. Having previously checked the drivers side and found it to be solid, thought that was it. (how wrong can you get!!). On closer inspection, the drivers sill was apparently ok underneath but the sill cover has given me some major rot. Following on from that, a bit more pressure and the bottom fell off too.
Had a look at the options and found the following:
Original sill comes in at anywhere between £90 to £130.
YRM do a sill replacement but it doesn't appear to be the same size as the original (doesn't have the extension into the floor) - £20 + post
I have some lengths of 50mm x 50mm box section - freebie
An initial look at the floor would suggest that this is OK and not majorly rusty but may require some patching here and there.
From the search, there are a few dimensions mentioned for using box section 60 x 120, 50 x 100, etc.
Now my question is (at long last), would 2 pieces of the 50 x 50 box section welded together be easier to do than getting the YRM sill section or should I just go for the full OE repair panel?
By the way, I haven't done any off-roading in it yet but may in the future.
Cheers
