Hi Guys

In the next couple of weeks I will be lifting the engine and gearbox together out of my swb series 3 88" diesel. 1972

I am looking to hire a hydraulic engine crane lift from HSS.

Does anyone know the combined weight in Kg of the 2.4 diesel complete with gearbox attached ? I understand that HSS have a portable crane that can be hired and will lift upto 500Kg

clearly the engine and gearbox together is quite a weight and I would like to know how heavy this is before going to hire an engine lift.

Any help would be appreciated. The engine and gearbox would be dropped back down onto a rolling chassis (not literally of course) unless I have the wrong crane.

Cheers

I've lifted a few 200tdi's complete with box out of rotten discos I reckon about 450kg so similar to that probably. How much are you going to pay to hire the crane? You can buy cheap ones on ebay for not much over 100 quid.

Where are you located, a member may do a better deal than hire company.

I was gutted to have to pay to rent a crane at xmas for a clutch change on my disco when I have a 10ton crane available at work...

Why are you removing the lumps, Just to put them back?

The 80 has had the following engines in my ownership, only changed due to them failing.

V8
2.2 Twin Carb Rover
2 1/4 petrol
2 1/4 diesel
p4203 diesel
2.5 diahatsu diesel
and now going back to v8 as it is what i have available.

Plus I want a v8 80...

Once finished I will try to put some effort in to another 80 dry stored which is staying with either a 1.6 or 2 litre. depending whats lying around.

If your skint, Machine mart do pulling winches for about 20 quid, if you have a strong garage roof that is, or like when I was 18 an available tree.

I'm interested in your lada, do you have any photo's, what engine did you use and how did you fit it to the box.
I believe FSO remember them?, gearbox bellhousings are compatible with lada engines and ford box's.

Ta.

Lada is being fitted with a perkins prima 2.0 TD matched to an LDV (lt77) 5 speed box, the output shaft has been modified to lada/ford tripod which then bolts up to the lada t-box.

Was advised on the lada website that it probably cant be done due to space concerns so decided to give it a go. Wish I had gone for a LT77 out of a landy to resolve the seperate t-box issue but its slowly coming together. Always plays 2nd place to the landy projects.
