Hi all

just got a little problem after searching cant seem to find an answer for my problem

took me range rover DSE to garage as it was overheating and water would come out of the expansion tank it wasnt mixing oil/water no mayo at all viscous fan working properly heat working properly been told by a mechanic who did sniff test that head might be cracked

so got a second hand head got it skimmed pressurised and got it fitted mechanic rings me and says car still building pressure and water still ****ing out reckons it could be cracked block how would i know if it is a cracked block engine has been rebuilt in 2000

also might change rad take out thermo and see what happens tomorrow car isnt blowing any white smoke at all from exhausts

any help much appreciated

Also might be worth getting a compression test just to make sure that the head is OK. I know you have changed it but you never know.

How would you know it's a cracked block? Well I guess when you have checked and changed everything else is the only way!

a cracked block will normally mean a loss of compression on one cylinder or gas pressure in the water (a sniffer test will tell you that) or mayo in the water or in the oil filler all depending on where the crack is.

bigandyta cracked block will normally mean a loss of compression on one cylinder or gas pressure in the water (a sniffer test will tell you that) or mayo in the water or in the oil filler all depending on where the crack is.

now this is something the car is doing while i drove the car before it had the work done car would lose power now i dont know if it went into limp mode as i would down change a gear and power would come back how would i be able to do a compression test on any of the cylinders is there a kit i can buy

also there is no mixing of oil water no smoke but alot of gas pressure in the coolant as the water comes out like a volcano i have ordered a new radiator and thermo water pump is new been on car a couple of months also bought a heavy duty block sealant to see if it would do the job parts come tommorow will let you all know

i would get a cooling system pressure test done first takes about ten minutes most garages do this free of charge (well we do anyway)compression test will take about an hour or so the kit is quite expensive not worth buying if an hours labour is only 30 quid if it passes pressure test i would do water pump and stat first ,thing is though why wasnt the first head pressure tested when it was removed that would of confirmed it eitherway other thing is why didnt they change the thermostat anyway bad practice not too thermostats are like fish they dont like being out of water had a few that have packed up through running without sufficiant water only other thing to look at is was the head changed ive had a renault in this week with headgasket failure supposed to have been done two montha ago only to find pinky white powder over everything (block sealer instead of head gasket ) not pointing any fingers but there are plenty of stitch up merchants out for your money

Hi

Friend of mine had the same problem with a shogun, turned out the water pump impelor was slipping on it shaft, stopping the water circulation & causing overheating.

Worth a look

hi

heads been put on as i know the mechanic and ive been up to see the car at the garage while he worked on it so i know heads been changed got the new head pretty cheap cars has done 192k so i thought mite aswell get it and put that one on got the pressure test done at a garage and he said mostly likely it was thye head thats why i went down the road of having it replaced bought a radiator from dealers and bought a thermo aswell

now my problem is that my radiator is being a B**CH to take out i have a copy of rave and that didnt help me much as when i pull the radiator up it gets caught on the viscous fan previous owner did say to me he had the water pump changed so that tells me he must have tightened the fan up

mechanic tried removing it but the damn thing wont come off so another day wasted anybody know how we ve tried a chiesel and hammer to shock the bolt with no go

any body been in the same postion how did you get around it

hi all

After changing radiator, thermo, head, head gasket water still bubbling blow air through pipes just to make sure no blockages put heavy duty block sealant which was blown straight out of the expansion tank so have decide to get new engine

bought a omega last nite with a 2.5 diesel engine from a mate for 250 told him to take engine out and scrap the car to get soem money back engine done a few miles but i just want rangie back on road

how much do you reckon i should pay to get engine fitted
