Hi all.i am restoring a 95 rrc softdash and engine ,now back in car, is smoking badly.i have lost the info I had on vacuum pipe layout so could someone let me know the layout of the vacumn piping,I'm hoping this will cure it ,thanks in advance ,tony

Cant see how vacuum piping would make it smoke (assume you are talking blue/oil smoke?, vac is predominantly for brakes but does also feed the EGR valve (if you have one). Think EGR uses the vac to open the valve so loss of it wouldn't cause smoke. If the engine has been sitting for a while it could just be a build up of residual oil in the combustion chamber or piping / exhaust that needs to burn off. Remove the intake manifold pipe (the big one) just to make sure there is no oil in intake (turbo oil leak).

Sorry I was not quite clear enough.its puffing blue/grey smoke on tick over and black under load, both in large amounts.before I stripped the car it was puffing on Rickover as above, but no smoke under load.i have run the car for a week now hoping it's just where the engine has been sitting, but it's no better.would 1 week be long enough?
Also it's seriously down on power which would add weight to your turbo suggestion.
No time at mo due to work but will ghetto it soon
I was thinking of buying a compression tester to rule out cylinders and bores first and I have a spare engine to swap spares with.
I'm told that blue and grey smoke is oil and black is fuel,is this correct.
Also just need to know the layout of the vac pipes ,I have 3 on a vacumn solenoid but don't know what goes where, any help appreciated,Tia tony

Blue smoke is oil being burnt, black is either too much fuel or not enough air. Possibility you may have an air restriction if one of your air pipes has started delaminating internally. If you do have a delaminated pipe or a blocked intercooler then the turbo pressure will tell the pump to put more fuel in when the boost increases but if you cant get the air in you will then get black exhaust and poor performance.

is the blue smoke a lot and all the time? not just cold.

pull your intercooler pipes off and check for pools of oil incase your turbo seals have blown.

Hi.engine is running perfectly now and it seems it was just where it was layed up during restoration.its getting smoother with every mile.you would imagine a weeks solid driving would burn off or dry out any residue, but it was nearer 2 weeks.thanks for all the help,p,s have a problem with srs ,but will post in rrc, regards tony.
