I was hammering the rear disc (it was stuck on) to get it off and heard a weird sound from the front of the car. Walked around and saw this big clip about 2 feet in front of the car.Thats a big circlip for the L322.
They do have some on the rear but from what I can see they are only 2 inches ish.
Do you own any other cars or niegbhours prone to practical jokes.
Something that big dont "just come off" unless you are taking stuff apart, go back over your work.
Was it before or during the work you found it?

Its a 2005 3l diesel auto. It started raining here so I haven't climbed under yet to investigate. As said for something like that to come off is pretty difficult, unless you are in amoungst it.
I can only visulise the circlip that holds the bolts in a driveshaft diff joint, but dont think the L322 of your age has, Be nice if you told us what you have in the thread.
I would be checking both sides front and back to see if anything is missing/different.

But they are only 2 inch 51mm from what I can see.Looks like one of these

Any motorcycles missing a wheel recently?Small update.. showed the big circlip to my partner and she said she'd seen it on the drive for weeks. The mystery deepens.....
When I removed the rear brake disc/drum it was clear the brake shoe clips had pulled through and the shoes were leaning into the drum. No grinding sound now since replacing the clips with a small bolt.that looks like the circlip that holds the hub bearing in the front or rear hub housing are you sure the scaping noise is not a wheel bearing colasped and the brake disc rubbing on the caliper bolts
the circlip that is in the wheel bearing hub is 100mm or 4 inches indiameter and is an internal one (that is the size that is on my discovery 3 I have just measured a new one that i will be fitting when i get back to Australia)Did you check the wheel bearing play as that might have caused the clips to pull through the shoes
I did not. But I did use heat and a lot of hammering to get the disc/hub off. I suspect maybe this caused the circlip to pop out?Did you check the wheel bearing play as that might have caused the clips to pull through the shoes
