I put a smear on just about all gaskets, and yes, the corkies do expand slightly, which gives them a better seal, the same with the paper ones! :p:p
Never has any synthetic sealant gunge been anywhere near anything of mine!! :cool::cool:
I must have been doing it all wrong for the past 50+ years! :eek::eek:

You have. The cork gaskets are meant to be stuck on the cover with adhesive. :);)
