One of the shocks on my Disco is f**ked and i've got to replace it.There are lots of shocks ob the market so I'm asking for some advice.I use my Disco 90% on the road.And it is my work commuting vehicle.Would a standard shock be ok or would an after market set be any better for me ?

standard shocks are fine.
always replace them in pairs on the same axle
if going to non-standard, then you really should replace all 4.

The standard shock absorbers are just fine on your Disco.
Do not waste any cash on gas shocks unless you are looking for a firmer ride
You will soon get very tired of the gas shocks on the road and will have wasted your money.
Gas shocks are great if you are going off road.
The standard shocks are reasonably priced and do the job.
Stiffer springs such as police springs will control body roll considerably, the downside is they are slightly longer giving the body a small lift.
Have you got anti roll bars fitted or have the brackets on the chassis?
Anti roll bars will control all or most of your body roll. There are aftermarket kits that can be fitted if you have not got either.
As my previous post stated, gas shocks can be very wearing if you drive mainly on road, they will control some of the roll due to the stiffer displacement but at a cost of less comfort.
I learnt this to my own cost and returned to standard shocks.
The brackets would be welded on the chassis, at the front near the steering bar, at the rear either side of the petrol tank.
Genuine kits from Land rover are scarce and require the brackets to be welded on if you do not have them. Expensive also.
After market kits are cheaper, and require the brackets on the chassis to be bolted or clamped.
All of the above work very well in controlling body roll.

Today I managed to finish changing the suspension, shocks are ProComp ES9000 with BritPart heavy duty springs.
In comparison with the items I took of, the Shocks were completely shagged. Reminded my of a Bicycle pump. Pushing the shocker down, it stayed down.
Was the same for the steering damper, this was replaced with a DeCarbon 1.
The old springs side by side with the new ones, was about an inch difference in height.
Next job on list is to change all the bushes for Deflex ones. The Bump Stops look like they need replacing soon......
Ah!!! the never ending saga of spending pennies.
