Any thoughts on the way these are fitted ? This is the way they were on from the box, and as instructed to fit them. Why supply with a cupped washer that matches the shape of the rubber, then fit it the other way round 🤔

My thoughts too. They are Terrafirma shocks, and as I said, that’s how they are shown as fitted. Strange !!

I too have TF dampers. They're okay but the paint on the lower end fails in under two years. After fitting I recommend coating with a transparent Dinitrol type wax to protect 🙄

Terrafookwits bagosheite, swap em out now, or in 18 months when they rot out.....
Honestly have no idea how they are till trading thier utter crap.

at least you will know where the terror part of thier name comes from......

PS ALLMAKES / BEARMACH all the same crappy stuff...

Get a decent one like Old Man Emu etc......

The reason for that is that if the washer cradles the bush then more stress is introduced into the pin that sticks out the bottom of the shock and it snaps off.
It's a get-out .... a way of covering up bad material and manufacturing design.
wot he said.......... specially if you dont remove yer cups........

So what’s the consensus then ? Leave the cup washers as they are, or turn them ? If the shocks are shite, I’ll just need to live with them until they break or rot out. It’s not the end of the world.

Not the cup washers on the bush, the bush cups on the axle,

@meego are there just the two washers or are there 4 ... 2 with larger center holes ?
Have you removed the steel 'cups' from the lower mount (can't quite see from your photo) ?
Can you post a pic of the instructions ?
There are no cups on the axle bracket. So I just have two cup washers per side. I fitted these a couple of weeks ago and I think I binned the instructions.

There's been a lot of discussion on Landyzone about the optimal direction of the cup washers on shock absorber bushes over the years. Some favour putting the convex side against the rubber to allow more articulation whereas others advocate putting the cup over the bush.

Unless you're doing a lot of competition driving and using the full range of axle articulation, does it make a difference? For most of us, who do a lot of tarmac miles interspersed with a few miles of potholed track occasionally, would we really notice much in terms of shock longevity?

What kills shock absorbers is where the pin has been allowed to rub against the sides of the hole, so the pin gets a 'neck' and the hole goes oval.

I would rotate the bushes and put then up against the two cupped washers with the big hole's against and sandwiching the mounting bracket.
The two cupped washers with the smaller holes also cup the bushes, the top one against the shock body and the lower one held by the nut.

If the two large hole washers aren't supplied then just the two on the outside on the bushes ....
You photo looks completely ar$e about face.

I agree. The more I looked at it, which was plenty as I’m in the middle of fitting a rear cross member, the more I thought that just does not look right 🤔

TThere seems to be two types.
The pic below is the OME/Terrafirma and Britpart version ...

The ones here (Prolink) are (I think) for the later type cars .... ??

All Terribly-not-firma rear shocks seem to have the original bushed with 4 washers ???

This looks much better. I would have liked the raised shoulder on the bushes to locate in the hole on the axle bracket, but they are too big. As per @Brown earlier post, that would stop the pin rubbing off the edge of the hole !!

Better, but I still think it's not right ...

I'd be very tempted to purchase 2 sets of TFSBK01 washer/bush kits ...

You think ? I thought it looks a good set up now, as the rubber bush on each side will allow good articulation of the pin ??
If these shocks turn out to be crap, I’m up the creek, as I bought a set for both the 90 and D2 🤨🫣
