Hi all,

Long time owner of Range Rovers and my latest (2002 4.4 V8 L322 with 96k) seems to finally have given up the ghost as my mechanic has found particles in the oil, so it seems it's on borrowed time.

I've tried putting it on eBay to sell as spares or repair as the rest of the car is very tidy and up together and would make an excellent donor car or to be used for off-roading. However, I don't think people understand them well enough on there.

I'll do a separate for sale post on the forum to see if anyone would be interested or be able to point me in the right direction. It's too good to sell for scrap so any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Sorry for the shameless first post and talking about selling. I know it's not the done thing.

Give you a curly wurly, not even much fluff on it, although it has been down behind the sofa for a while! :)

On the other hand, my mate has a scrapyard, it is near Slough, so you should be able to get it there and weigh it in for more than you spend on fuel.

Selling up is a bit drastic unless the particles are large or particularly voluminous. Has he given you any more idea what the likely cause is? A lot of miles since the last oil change would start showing some particles in your oil, but it could also be something a lot more serious.
Have you priced up a new engine? If you'd be looking to buy another to replace it, it might be worth biting the bullet on the engine to avoid the gamble.
