settings for transfer box

hi i want to change the transfer box on my 1987 r/rover. but once i unbolt it off .and then fit the new 1 but i will need to know which position the selector rod with the splined teeth on go. .or as you know when selector is engaged hi/or/low it wont have it. can any 1 help please thanks

get one with the selectors still attached and disconnect the lever, thats how i did mine

im not sure .how can i tell wot box i have. it is a 4speed auto if this helps.and the transfer box is the same as fitted to a disco
