hi, i've brought a 300tdi land rover 110 and i want to service it over the christmas holiday. what i want to know is do i use some sort of engine flush to clean the inside of the engine, what the best filters (genuine, britpart etc) and what's the best oil to use.

many thanks

hi mate ive also got a 110 300tdi . very nice engines. nice and easy to work on . serviced mine in the summer i used a britpart service kit . to start off with drain out all the oil filter aswell . then put the sump plug back in and return the old filter . then i used comma engine flush . to do this you half fill the engine with the flush then run at fast idle for ten minutes. after this let all the flush out , but watch out it will be hot . then replace the filter and sump plug washer and tighten up the sump plug. i used castrol oil off the farm but its very exppensive if you dont buy bulk.

next you need to replace the fuel filter to do this just take the old one off put the new one on then bledd the system and let it run at fast idle for 5 mins .

air filter , take out the old air filter and replace it with a new one or perhaps a k&n one / ramair one.

rad. undo the bottom hose on the rad and let all the old water out. then fill with rad flush and fresh water . run at fast idle for ten minutes then let it all out , the water will be hot . after this re fit bottom hose and fill 3/4 of the way up then add 1 bottle of rad weld ( prevents rust ) and enough antifreeze to protect to -40 . ( use a antifreeze tester , about a fiver at local garage )

the inside of the engine . run car until nearly out of fuel then put 50 litres in it and add some engine cleaner to the fuel and carry on as usual.

thats what i did. if you wana replace all the gear box / diff / tranny box oil its up to you . you might also ana bleed the breaks and replace the discs / pads. if you do id invest in the new defender haynes manual , they are realy good.

any way have fun its not too difficult and you will definatly end up stinkin off diesel and coverd in gloopy black oil.
