hiya
just got to look at why my steeing box makes an awfull grinding noise
and sticks halfway thru travel,(only noticed this when i took it off
bulkhead, as the other noises in the landy probably drowned itout, and
you use that much force in turning the steering anyway the sticky bit
just blended in with everything else)
this unit was bought brand new last june, 20th to be precise, upon
stripping it down, at the bottom and top of the worm gear, where the
bearings rest is realy pitted, so no amount of renewing is going to
sort it out, its dead,
now, because of the pittedness on BOTH bearing surfaces, im asuming it
was tightend too tight at the manufacturers, ive certainly not touched
it, as you wouldnt if it was brand new. Ive always kept the oil up to
level, in fact its never leaked anything in its short life.
my question is who do i throw it at, i cant afford £140 every year
for a steering collumb, its why im tax exempt. im going to ask the guy
i bought it off tommorow to see what he can do, but the guarantee is
4/5 weeks gone.
im not a happy chappy
what do you think i should do?
£140 for a steering box that lasts a year...........cant get my breath
