I have just got hold of an ex military 109 ostensibly as a donor vehicle but it seems in such good condition I am thinking of maybe restoring that as well!
It has a plate on the seatbox with a chassis number is it possible to go straight to the DVLA with that to get an age related plate or are there other hoops to jump through as well?
I came across a thread about this somewhere but I can't find it again, any help appreciated.

I registered an ex MOD 109 at the DVLA once. There is an application form you need to fill in ( I can't remember the number). I also bought a heritage certificate from Gaydon to prove its build date, as I didn't have any MOD paperwork or release papers. I also had to get it MOTd on its chassis number before I could register it as you have to tax it at the same time (or did) If its older than 40 years it won't need MOT now. However all this was when the local DVLA offices were still open. You'll probably have to send all your paperwork to Swansea and it could be there for weeks. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I recently got my 101s date changed.
Its been on the road for years, and its plate says 82, but they were not made that late,,,

Anyway, the procedure was to find the chassis number, apply to the BMIHC with that, and pay £40 for the bit of paper.
Send the bit of paper to the DVLA, with covering letter and the V5

Call DVLA to remind them
Call DVLA to remind them
Call DVLA
Call DVLA
Wait another 2 weeks

Wait another 2 weeks

(this goes on for a bit longer - i think the whole lot took about 8-10 weeks)

Then get a brand new V5 in the post, showing identical information to the old one.

Call them again, and get told that their own records are updated (so now no tax etc) but something about no age related plate. So im still on the old plate, which, i thought, was illegal, as it shows the vehicle to be newer than it actually is, but im not bothered, as it was the tax / mot thing that i was after.

my old light weight had a later number plate but build date was written on the v5

The military reg should be on the build plate on the bulkhead. With that you can get the vehicle record (a faded sheet of paper with very little on it in my case) from the Army Museusm records office (for £40) but what it does is have the chassis number, military reg, into service date and out of service dates. With that you explain (several times) that it needs to be registered. In my case that had been done but to a plate for the discharge year (78) not the build year (70). Even though this had been like it for probably 20 years I wrote and told them it was a mistake and I should have a 1970 plate and they just changed it free. No one was more suprised than me. So my advice its get eh paperwork and get any reg, then get that changed to age related. It would be better to do it in one go but that option seems hard to get.

Yes I think I will get a heritage cert from gaydon, that should get me the built date which should hopefully eventually get an age related plate from Swansea fingers crossed
