Hi all,

I havn't been on this site for a while and am now considering buying a Series 3 88 SWB. Details are as follows:

This has been stood for probably 10 years in a garage. It use to run before it was put away years ago. Its in overall good condition with very little rust. The body is also very straight with minimal dints.

It currenty has a 2.25 diesel fitted however the original 2.25 petrol is in the boot if I wanted to swap back.

I would like to know if this is worth buying and what things could I expect to be wrong with it. Would you say 10 years without use is going to be a bring up tonnes of problems with it?

Help please????

It could be a money pit. Its been stood for ages - but at least its been inside.

Have a look at the chassis, the outriggers and the bukhead. Landrovers are big meccanno sets, but theres no point buying an expesive vehicle identity and a rolling rot box/scrap pile.

Whats the price on it?

Go over every inch of the chassis with a hammer and check for rust - pay particular attention to the rear cross member, front dumb irons, bulkhead outriggers and around the spring hanger mounts. Also give the bulkhead a good going over. Get the engine running and try moving it.

If all is good, then i'd say go for it!

Buy it and at worst eBay it...

I'd say at £200 you can't go too wrong really. It will be worth more in parts if it is a total loss (though it's always better to restore than strip for parts)
