Series IIa parts

I have just started a serious rebuild on a 1967 Series IIa, I am located in Canada. When I look at the price of parts on line I am surprised at the big difference in prices between suppliers. I do believe you get what you pay for in this world but I have to wonder as my shopping list keeps mounting up. I will need a full set of springs and shocks, steering relay, a full set of brake drums, pads and cylinder's, a set of seats etc etc. I would like to hear what others have experienced, the good, the bad and the ugly

Already having fun, my steering wheel did not simply pull off, had to use the torch on her twice and the only way the steering relay came out was to turn the chassis upside down, heat red hot and the pound out with my largest sledge . Chassis has been sand blasted primed and epoxy coated, working on the bulk head now, next the engine gear box unit.

Well people moan about britpart brake stuff, but it is all I have used on my series2, shoes/slaves and master, no issues.
Used britpart calipers on my 90 and the d3 again no issues.
So I would say britpart all the way for brakes, would also recommend a couple of seal kits so you do not get stuck should you get a dicky unit.
Always worth popping the gaiters to one side and applying some rubber grease to stop anything seizing if it is going to stand a lot

Relays, there were some stories a few years back of britpart ones failing as the main shaft snapped! so people were buying up NOS shafts to rebuild their old unit.

Shocks, literally any old cheap crap will do.

I would spend money on decent springs though, have read to many threads of cheap springs biting people in the arse.
Jones springs have a good name in the UK.

Most of the budget parts available are generally made by bare footed chaps crouched in the dirt. I’d guess shipping costs ten times the unit price once it’s been twice round the world so you can guess the quality control issues.
I’d try and stick with branded goods from specialist suppliers. Brakes from a brake company, springs from a spring manufacturer etc. The biggest trouble most of us have is trying to outguess the general tat suppliers of who’s tat they will post out. Price is often no guarantee.
I’m sick and tired of buying what looks like a quality replacement only to get the ‘it’s only a stock photo’ BS when they send you savage made junk.

Check out "Rovers North" in " Vermont " for series parts. You don't say where in Canada you are but they could be just over the border.
