Hello Everyone:

I have an early 1956 86" Ser I that I am renovating from the ground up. I just got the chassis back from sandblaster. Does anyone have any idea what was the original colour of the chassis?
The reason I ask is I have seen pictures of series I Chassis in both Green and black.
Any help would be appreciated.

The first 80 inch one's were silver, the second batch had light green chassis, then bronze green the same as the body. With the introduction of the 86 wheel base chassis were painted the same as the body, bronze green, grey, blue or beige [rare]. So its black for you as all chassis were black from 1955 on.

Just finished helping a mate here put together a 1950 80" S1 and he had the chassis painted in the same colour as the body, bronze green.
Being only two years? After the first S1(1948), I'm assuming this was correct, this guy is a Landy Series tragic so I'm thinking he will have researched the correct info for the colour.

Yes his would be right,by 1950 bronze green was the only colour for body and chassis because that is what the army wanted for their series one's There were some 3500 silver ones made but only about 1500 light green before bronze green became standard.
