Hi
can anyone tell me why when i put the brake drum screws in the drum seems to lock up... take the screw out and the drum frees up, the drums are not warped, and there is no lip on them... please help

Hi

the shoes are central, everything has been completely overhauled with new, cylinders, pipes, shoes, this happened to me before on a series 1, and everything is fine untill i put the screws back in the drum. It feels as if the drums gone oval, or warpped.

it's like something out the twilight zone.. there don't seem to be any reason for it.. "everything" has beeen checked and checked again.

you must be missin something.. check shoes are on the right way round. and i know you have said the shoes are central but how did you check them? and the same for the drums. what did you use to check them?

aye. even with the wheels on, you still need to check the brakes are not binding.
mind you with the wheels on, you get a lot more leverage!

maybe the drums need checking over. could be the ridge at the rear of the drums. shave a few thou off wif a lathe?

had the same problem on a mini once.
the drums had worn and the new shoes were slightly wider, so the edge of the shoe was rubbing on the edge of the worn groove in the drum. I fixed it by chamfering the edges of the new shoes slightly with a file - not sure if this a politically correct method though.
