Series 3 Winch recommendations?

As an ex Series owner (5 of them) I would suggest the first question you should ask yourself is 'do I really need a winch?'
Sure, we all want one, but that's not the same as needing it

I used to drool over other people's winch equipped LR's when off-roading years ago, that is until I got a motor with a nice 'Husky' only to find I had no use for it .. took it off & flogged it, relieving the front suspension of all that extra weight into the bargain.

I would completely second the above regarding need. I have a husky fitted to my 110 and have never used it for personal recovery. I have used it for pulling other people out and its primary usage is moving large things about the field or onto trailers. However even having said that it probably only gets used and handful of times a year. I would not get rid or it as I want it and the times I do use it is is very useful, but I certainly do not NEED one.

Similarly I have just bought a capstan for my series 3 (too cheap to refuse) and I fully expect to never actually use that for anything other than playing to prove it does work, any proper work needing a winch would be done by the 110. However again I have wanted a capstan on the front of a series since before I even owned my series.

Both of my examples are entirely because I wanted a winch. That is a very valid reason to have one, but they are heavy, unless you get a "good" one they require maintenance, and unless you invest the money in fitting it properly (solenoids, heavy wiring etc. for electric) they run a high risk of getting hot and causing issues when used.

I've got a complete fairey capstand winch. Its complete with the drive shaft, and will fit on the standard bumper. pm me if you're interested.

Cheers,
I’m looking to buy a complete Fairey Capstan winch! I see them refurbished on LR winches website, but I don’t need shiny $2700 just a complete working one I can clean up and use.
