I have done a search and only found conversions. A friend has a series 3 v8 and is sure it is origional but I recon its a good conversion.
The question is who is right?
I am a defender man so dont know. The car is in the west of Ireland if that makes any different with exports

All Stage 1's ARE 109's, 1st produced in '79 and apart from the V8, modified front and a few stickers are standard Series 3 spec
As well as CV's in the front axle, permanent 4WD, lower ratio LT95 gearbox, extended spring hangers, 9.00 x 16 tyres, longer bonnet, door locks on the door not in the handle hole, radiator and front cross member are further forwards and second cross member is removed.

i think the factory did actually experiment with fitting v8s into a couple of swb motors but i don't think they got out of the special vehicles dept

Yes the first V8 in a shorty was in a 90 but they didnt produce very long , too much power and things got out of control too quick for most buyers , and landrover were still quite conservative back then
