Series 3 revving itself help!

Hi there everyone ive recently put a 2.5na diesel in my series 3,now the problem im having is it will tick over all day no bother but as soon as you drive it will be fine for the first 10 mins and then it will start revving and dying,it revs itself over half throttle and then it will just cut out if you leave it a bit then crack an injector pipe it will usually start and be ok for a couple of mins any help greatly appreciated.

it sounds like almost air in the injection pump or a faulty govenor whats your fuel filter like as it could be fuel starvation even through a buggared fuel filter

Hi there thanks for the response the fuel filter is new im starting to think injector pump i hope it isnt but the pump is from a engine which was stood 6 years but it was started regular any ideas how much to get pump recond i have a spare which wont let any diesel through to injectors cheers in advance.

Are you sure you havent got an air leak on your filter? possibly fractured a pipe getting the old one off?

Cheers for the reply but i dont think its a fuel pipe as it starts no bother no matter how long its left and runs perfect until it gets hot?im thinking something sticking in pump when its getting warm or how about lift pump?cheers

I think these pumps use fuel pressure as part of the regulation system - certainly my Citroen BX with a roto-Diesel (successor to CAV- via Lucas) did. With air in the system the thing would run faster - potentially disastrous as its uncontrolled - but there's usually not enough fuel to cause any real problems.

Looking for leaks is cheaper than buying and fitting another pump. If the problem is due to air leaks - a replacement pump will suffer the same problem as the leaks will still be there!

Remove your PCV pipe from the air filter and see if it still does the same!

Hi there everyone thanks for the help put new lift pump on and still no good but ran perfect out of a can so took sender unit out and filter was blocked solid cleaned out and now runs perfect cheers.
