Series 3 power steering dilemma

So, I have have recently been brought into the world of all things Landrover & I have a series 3 that I would like to fit power steering to. Option A would be eps from a vauxhall corsa. Option B would be the setup from a disco 2 that I have just bought for the 300tdi lump. Or Option C would be a p38 steering box. Which would be easiest and most cost effective? No comments telling me to man up and grow some muscles please, as this project is going to be for my mum to drive, so i want it to be easy for her to use. Thanks in advance!
 
As I'm in the same place as you re power steering, I'll offer my opinion.
P38 option.
It's been done plenty of times, issues ironed out and there will be plenty here to advise you on how to do it.

Thanks for the replies guys, but can you tell me why the disco option is no good? (i'm only asking because I've bought one for the engine & it has power steering already) Is it just harder to do than the p38 box, or will it just not fit?

If you don't run oversize tyres, and grease all the steering ball joints often, and oil in the steering box and relay, Series steering isn't hard to turn.
With a tall thin tyre, a woman can easily steer them, as they have 3 1/2 rotations of the wheel for a fairly narrow lock to lock on the steering.
I have seen fairly recent pictures of the Queen driving Series on her estates, and she is not a young woman.

Whilst I won't argue that, I'll still be fitting power steering to my s3 :)

I don't drive Land Rovers at all if I can help it. 32 years of farming has pretty much knackered my body.
But my wife, who is about 5 foot 4, doesn't have any problem with the Series steering. It is fine so long as you are moving.
 
Well as you can tell I am still very green when it comes to all this stuff! The Discovery in question is 1997, is this a D2 or D1 ? The chap says it's a D2 but I don't know. Based on the age will it also deffo be a 300tdi? Secondly, I did watch the Steve Parker video & I can see that he does do an easy conversion, but I really didn't want to use the defender column, would rather stick with the series & keep it looking original if I can. So, CAN I use the discovery power steering?? or is just a total no go?

If that was an option Steve would offer it as a package so doubt Disco box fits series steering shaft...I need to fit power steering to my 101 so have looked at all options...

It's almost certainly a D1, Does it look my avatar ?

There were actually 2 D1's ( :confused: ) - the 200 series, with the LDV headlights and a designer interior ( :rolleyes: ), and the later 300 series, like mine ..

Post a (decent) picture - easy to tell :)

Highly likely it is a Discovery 1, the facelift model, like he says^^^^^^.

But a simple inspection will reveal, a 300Tdi and a Td5 look completely different.
 
Another thought…
It’s probally easier to fit a defender coloum than shoehorn a TDI into the engine bay.

yes you say you are green and new to this but it takes a lot of time to do conversions.

jack the series up and turn the steering wheel. You may find that you have stiff ball joints or need to apply grease to wheel top pins.
 
Sounds more & more like a discovery 1 by what you describe. Regarding the column, could I not just remove the worm drive box and attach a Uj to the end of the column, then couple it up to which ever steering box I use? (I have a small machine shop at home, so am able to fabricate bits n bobs)
