I have got the diff, brakes & chrome swivels complete with half shafts if that is of any use.

not got the main casting tho

There is a breakers yard up the road from me with a 109 sat on a wall, both axle's are are still on the old girl, and the rear is a salisbury jobbie.
Only thing is, it would mean a 3 hour trip each way for you.

Hi,

Same as a SWB, same as S2. But brakes may be different size, wheel studs may be smaller on early S2, all interchangable.

Unless of course, you want the HEAVY DUTY Salisbury axle (can't remove diff as a unit). VERY HEAVY, and not too common, but brakes are much wider ..... possibly 3" wide shoes.

Note, you cannot interchange SWB/LWB REAR axles, as the LWB springs are mounted on chassis outriggers. Can be converted if you can weld. Early S2 LWB used same diff as front axle, interchangable but be aware of the filler plug. Later S2 LWB and all S3 LWB used heavy duty axle on rear. Repeat - very heavy. S2 LWB can be fitted to S3 LWB, and vice-versa, but you need the matching prop.

you can if you do this:-

LANDROVER SERIES 2 2A 3 88" SWB REAR SALISBURY AXLE on eBay (end time 05-Jun-10 23:27:32 BST)

Hi,

OK, it can be done ..... if you can weld.

As I said, the Salisbury axle is heavy ...... just look at the size of the diff in that photo.

The propshaft is 2" (I think) shorter for the heavy duty diff, which means it has to "bend" more, particularly on a SWB. Not a good idea if you have raised suspension, or parabolics.

The heavy duty axle is less likely to break, but if it does break it s a bigger job than just swapping the diff.

ALMOST all Series front diffs are the same, and interchangable. You can also fit an early S2 LWB diff in the front. But note that the oil filler plugs are on the front axle, and rear diff. If you fit a front diff to a rear axle, you need to pull a half-shaft to get the oil in.

My S2 has Range Rover diffs ..... count the splines before you buy.
