i need to fit new door seals,the ones i have which are knackered have a metal backing.the ones i've seen for sale do not.is there a reason i shouldn't use the ones without?

Not good reason that I can think of. Washers on the rivets would be a good idea I guess so it doesn't pull through the rubber. All the seals I have recently bought have not had the metal backing.

Screws and nuts? Fair enough! Don't they kinda get in the way rather than sitting flush? Or am I thinking about something completeley different in the first place?
