Series 3 Cylinder heads...

Has there been any changes to cylinder heads over the years on a S3 diesel lump?

Reason I ask is that I have a spare engine, at the weekend I removed the head with a view to checking it over and swapping it for the one one Candy at the mo...

Head looks great, far better than the one on at the mo, BUT the heat control is not by the thermo housing, that just has the hose to the matrix, wheras mine has a control.

On the spare head at the back of the head, is what can only be described as a tap, that has a hose to the heater matrix, guess this could be a bodge up, looks easy to convert to my system, but just need to know if the head is a standard fit??.....

I have a feeling that means the one with the tap is from a 3 bearing engine and the one without is a 5 bearing engine. I could well be wrong though... Expert in the field of cylinder head modifications and repair. Roland at Automotive Remanufacturing in Chester. 01244539196

I have one of his skimmed heads, gives me a touch more compression better air flow. In my case it helps for Unleaded too! It could be a SII / SIII thing too.... I think the SIIA had that kinda setup...

Really just need to know if the heads can be swapped..........

Its probably been in a lightweight. No heater control. Turn the tap on for heat in winter, turn it off for slightly less heat in summer.

Forgot to say that otherwise the heads should be the same.

The main difference from a early one to a late one is that in or around 1980 they changed from imperial to metric fixings,but this will not stop you swapping them if they are different, just don't mix the nuts and bolts up and the banjo bolt that attach's the oil feed to the head.
