series 3 as an every day car ?

As far as the steering goes, you quickly learn that you don't apply lock unless you're actually moving. I very rarely try to turn the wheels unless there is physical forward or backward motion. The lack of steering lock can easily catch you out, particularly in car parks etc.

I agree, the lack of any decent steering lock is a bit of a pain, they've recently redone our local Sainsburies carpark and it's now a bugger to get out of some of the spaces.

The question remains. Do you want to drive a series.
A series with a turbo or more modern engine isn’t a series anymore. A series with parabolics or god forbid coils isn’t a series.
You can do all sorts to modernise one and I have done most of them but each upgrade takes a little series away from the experience.
It’s definately a personal thing how far you go.

If you get one and if it's a LWB don't what ever you do take it in a multi story car park! The steering lock is not good enough!

Although, that would be a safe place to park it coz no bugger could ever get it out.

I'm surprised you can get under the height barrier in multi stories, All the ones around here would turn mine into a convertible!

I once took a truck cab into the multi story at Manchester Airport, it clunked the swinging thingy above slightly but was ok once inside height wise. When I got in, boy did I regret it, it did not have enough steering lock to go round the ramps between levels and even the 90degree turns had to be shunted, by the time I got out I was sweating buckets and my arms were like bits of spaghetti !

I now find a lot of pay and display car parks have hieght barriers that are just too low for our series. The Pop-up roof and rack make it 87.5" (2.225m) and the barriers vary from 2m upwards. I now use google earth to check before I set off. Some councils are well organsied and you can call and they tell you, others have no idea. Some of the 2.2m ones are just about OK but there's no gaurentee they are accurate so I pull up and stand on the bumper to get a sighting. The trouble is the highest part is the £80 roof vent!

Luckily mine is just under the two meter car park standard. I do take it into multi story car parks but it’s an 88 so doable with a bit of straining.
