That should make it fit straight off, I only found out when I went to re-fit mine at the weekend! Swing the adjuster bracket out the way if you need to, if it doesn't swing down easily give it a tap

As for belt tightness, I always got told to make it so you can just about twist it 90 degrees

Orig battery (Y reg); recently left lights on - battery flat; recharged, never really convincing; no time - garage. Alternator check 12 V, worse when lights screen heater etc. In new batty. Alt check 14 V with everything on. Borrow or put a new one in before you disturb anything else! Good luck. Battery internal resistance goes down as the plates short out as the sediment builds up so alternator terminal voltage goes down. Shouldn't do alt much harm unless nearly dead short across it. Its a question of matching the resistances of the batt and the thermistor circuits in the alternator.

Job done! I got the new alternator fitted this morning. I found it very fiddly but I managed to contort myself with a 13mm socket and spanner and get it done. I invested in a new fan belt as well as the original one was knackered. I charged my battery whilst I was doing it and it fired up nicely first time.

That is the very first job I have ever done on a vehicle in my life and as I felt pleased with myself I celebrated by thawing myself out in front of the log fire in my village pub at lunchtime.

Have I joined the club now?!

I still have the one that I replaced. I'm happy to box it up and post it to you. It may well be in working order even though I have fitted a new one. Let me know.
