Hi Folks,

I was wondering if someone could give me some advise please?

I'm having an issue with my newly acquired Series 3 that at some point has had a 3.5L V8 installed.
Often at idle I have high revs and I believe this is to do with the accelerator cable getting a bit stuck. If you see from the photos, when the pedal is pressed the outer part of the cable pulls through the hole in the bulkhead, when released it goes back but when I put my foot under the peddle and lift it all the way up it disappears through the hole and the revs settle to what I would expect.

Where the accelerator cable comes through the bulkhead there isn't a nut on the outer cable to hold it in place, is there supposed to be? If so any idea what thread size it is?

I cant see a nut on any of the online shops for the cable but also not sure if that waggling around like it does would cause my issue.

Many thanks in advance
Jack

The normal accelerator linkage is rod all the way from the pedal to the carb. Surely, it must be relatively easy to fit summat to that bit of outer cable to keep it from moving, if only a jubilee clip.

I've just fitted similar cable to get rid of a previous owners bodge with the accelerator linkage - looks like part NRC8116. I just used an M12 flange nut to secure.

Thanks guys,

Yeah similar bodge just repaired RP72, M12 nut worked perfectly but also moved the cable on the carb linkage so I get the full use of the cable. She now works beautifully.

Thanks
Jack
