I have been battling with my 1976 series 3, fitted a 300tdi and when started it smoked heavily, under strip down we found a bent con rod and now with the pistons out, the crank looks borderline. I cannot keep throwing money at it, it has cost me a fortune as it stands and i'm bored of laying underneath it. I just have to call time on it. If you find a good 300tdi, drop it straight in and it'll be a done job. I've done the major work, made an exhaust, all cooling system is done etc. I've made new dumb irons and spring hangers which are 3/4 ton military type. All new shocks (one ton). Overdrive fitted.
If you want to make a sensible offer, i'd be interested, maybe consider p/ex or swap for anything interesting.
