Is that engine swap a common option?

I used to drive a Series but that was forty plus years ago and it was brand new! (Overdrive and freewheeling hubs and it still never did more than 22 mpg)

I fitted a daihatsu engine to my series around 20 yrs ago.
Good engine but parts were hard to get even then.
I wouldn't have one now with 200/300 TDI engines easily available. When I did mine a 200tdi was around £2000 from a breakers.
