Hi all.
I got the old girl on the road at the weekend, but one thing i have nboticed is the springs are as hard as rocks!
i bought the landie from a mate who had bought and fitted some new old stock springs, but they are about 9 leaves in the spring pack.. is this normal??
i think he has fitted the springs from some heavy duty wagon!??

can spring packs be split and number of leaves reduced or is it best to replace the springs with lesser rating?

it is that bad that when going over speed bumps it starts to hop from front to back and so on.. i dont think its a damping issue.
any suggestions are welcome

9 springs at the front for a petrol S3 is correct, 11 at the rear. They might be stiff from lack of use, corrosion between the leaves stops them deflecting properly. Try painting with old engine oil (thinned with a little petrol) leaving it to soak and then driving along a bumpy road.

get a fat mate to jump up and down in the back to help them flex
also tr jacking it up on the rear cross menber and as you do this the axle should stay on the floor, and leave it over night to see if that loosens them uup abit

mine was similar when i had it, we were moving to a new site at the time so i took the landy to collect all the paper/art stuff. filled it up with LOTS of paper etc and went over the speed humps a couple of times, everything got a lot better after that!
get a few mates in the back and when their heads stop hitting the roof over speed humps, it should be ok!
