Good morning all. I've 'rebuilt' my S2a/S3 It's on an 'F' plate but there are S3 bits in it so not entirely sure which. Mostly bodywork and the like, but fitted a new fuel tank. There was crud in the bottom of the old one. On reconnecting everything I can get it to crank, but nothing happens. I've manually primed the pump but nothing seems to be getting to the fuel filter, or beyond.

There's nothing happening at the coil either.

Is there something obvious that I'm missing?

For the record, the engine etc were all working before we took the bodywork off and started putting it all back together.

Grateful for your guidance. I've ordered a new pump and I'll be grateful if someone could recommend a reliable efficient coil and ballast resistor.

Many thanks.

ETA, There's fresh fuel in the tank, 7 litres

I would be looking at the distributor leads, cap, points, and condenser, and the low tension wiring to the coil.
You need to test to find out if there is power going to the coil and distributor, and if so, why it isn't coming out.

Accuspark are good for coils, don't know if they sell the ballast resistors. If it was me, I think I would just upgrade the whole thing to negative earth 12v coil ignition.

If the fuel bowl is filling with petrol then the pump is working. Disconnect the inline filter and see if you can pump petrol out, if not the you must have a blockage
If there's no power to the coil then start at the beginning, does the oil light come on with the key.. is the power getting to the coil feed?

I forgot about the fuel. If he keeps cranking, it will probably come through, it is a very simple fuel system.

Worth him having a look at the fuel take off pipe into the top of the tank, though, they sometimes rust through or get blocked up.

Itook the brass mesh off the bottom of my pickup pipe.. don't see the point and it was probably doing more harm than good

Thank you all for your input, very much appreciated. I guess it's one of those Series Land Rover things. It was working. And now it's not. Back to first principles and I guess everyone who's ever owned one of these things has had theirs do exactly this, Work one day, not the next. I'll report back!

Series can be quite reliable. You are probably having problems because of issues arising from the rebuild.

Once you have sorted out the teething troubles, it should run for weeks or months without any attention other than basic checks.
