series 2 v8 auto 2000 plate cuts out

hi guys help needed with this little problem
ive recently bought a disco series 2 v8 auto,
it had a pretty bad missfire but after 2 new lambda sensors and a exhaust gaskets on the manifold it seems to have cured the missfire.
i kindly lent the car to my old man yesterday and he couldnt get it of his drive saying it kept stalling.i went round and started it and got it off the drive,but as i left it idling it started running rough then the engine management light flickered on and then it cut out flashing all the lights on the dash up(mostly on the left hand side)including the m and s lights that relate to the modes on the auto box.i could turn the engine over but no ignition,after 10 mins it reset and i could start it again so i threw caution to the wind and tryd to get her home 5 mins down the road the management light flickered on and the engine died,most dash lights on again but this time no sign of it restarting.does anyone know of any thing on the auto box that could cause this that my dad might of disturbed or could it be a possible immobiliser or e.c.u fault..be gratefull of any ideas

Your Land-Rover is unnecessarily complicated. To solve the problem, get rid of it and buy a proper series 2 from the good old days before all these stupid lambda sensors, immobilisers and ECUs!
 
thanks fenby very usefull comments.if i wanted to freeze my ass off all year round driving a tin can with squeeky brakes crap suspension and the top speed of a tortoise i would do what you suggest.if we all lived in the dark ages there would be no landrover!!
 
I think if we all lived the the dark ages then the age of the series landy would flourish. I know the title for these threads is series talk, but i'd have expected better from a land rover driver, to understand that when it says series is means a REAL series. you might have better look in a disco thread

And my brakes don't squeak at all! They don't stop me... but, they don't squeak either.

If someone likes old vehicles because they appreciate their simplicity, does that mean they are living in the dark ages? As it happens I work with radar systems and believe me they need some sophisticated electronics to work properly - a car on the other hand does not. I like to maintain cars myself, but it really annoys me if for example I can't open the window on my car and to cure the problem requires electrical fault finding and possibly spending lots of money buying electrical parts, stripping the whole door down and reassembling it - all for the sake of being able to wind down the window with a button.

If I wanted to waste my spare time repairing electrical faults, waste my money fuelling a 4 L petrol engine 4x4 which I would use almost exclusively on the road as a status symbol, and I was too stupid or lazy to be able to operate a manual gearbox, then I think I would seriously consider buying a 4.0L V8 automatic discovery;)
 
firstly yea i,ll appologise for stupidly posting this in the wrong forum,it was late is my excuse.as for fenby the car isnt a status symbol at all i bought it to tow my ac cobra which i have built from the ground up so fauolt finding is par of the course in this day n age and as for the fuel its also lpg so probably cheaper to run than yours.i use this one to EXCLUSIVELY drive on the road as i use my defender to go green laning.and my ac as the status symbol but cheers any way...

ac cobra, defender and a disco, obviously earning far too much

I think I'd rather drive the Cobra than tow it around on a trailer with a Discovery . . . but each to their own.
