Hi all: new here, site looks great.

I'm ex-Army, and unable to resist 'the call of the Defender'... (primarily 'cos it means I can get all 7 of the family in the thing and go anywhere, but also because it's one I found abandoned in the barn of my house in France...)

But - I always found that Army ones were crap in 2 mildly important areas: the windscreen wipers are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard, and the headlamps are great for the military, 'cos they put out so little light that no-one will ever notice you.

Now I'm driving this thing on the road, with family in the back, I'd like to overcome both these little problems. Any thoughts/recommendations? I don't want to put 400 lights across the roof, or some sort of 'I'm crossing the Sahara' light pod on the bonnet - but is there a simple halogen kit or replacement for the standard lights? Ditto for the winky-dinky little wipers that don't wipe anything?

Other than that - it's so nice to be back in a vehicle that can take anything I throw at it, and that doesn't need 'tlc'.

:welcome2:
Try fleabay for up grade kits for your lights theres loads of halogen and xenon kita available.

You could try new blades but guess you have done that already? dont know of any mods for the wipers but im betting someone on here will.

paddocks sell them clear headlamps for about £27 a pair, i have some of them with 110/150w off road bulbs in them,,,, very bright

as for the wipers i have fitted a 3 wiper conversion on mine but its still no better lol

as for the mod ones i always ended up somewhere to ****in hot to need them lol

Not much you can do with the wipers, other than make sure that the motor, linkage, wheel-boxes etc are all in good nick.
Very worthwhile upgrading the washers though.
I used blades from the rear of a Ford Sierra Estate, with the water nozzle built in.

Now the water goes on the window, not the roof or the bonnet.

there are wipers that are made by `storm` and they are larger and have a bigger more powerful spring in them i think they are from scorpion racing but im not sure check ebay out. my friend has them and they make a difference. as for lights i have the clear haloegn set and they are great but i also have 4 spots on the roof for a bit extra when shooting in the feilds at night!! cheers

Thanks very much guys - gives me a start point. Paddocks it is for some lights, and I'll just have to do some thinking about the wipers...Will check out the 'storm' idea. Short of Mark's point about moving to the Sahara, I'll need them now and again! They just seem basically a bit 'wimpish', for a vehicle that is the opposite in every other way.
