right peeps, how would i go about doing away with the sedimenter on my disco?

reason being,11mm spanners dont fit properly and i havent got a 7/16' and dont want to round the bolt head off coz i'll only have to replace or get rid anyway.

aaaaaand how come there not fitted to fender's but they are to disco's?

does the fender have somthing else instead?

Cant you just cut the pipes and stick a hose over them with a couple of clips.

Personally I think they are a waste of space since the fuel filter catches all the ****, on trucks we tend to cut them off coz they get water in them and then freeze.

The whole point of the sedimenter is to catch water and cr*p in the diesel, the filter might catch the crap but has no capacity to store water, and once you have paid to have your rusty injection pump repaired, you will know why they are fitted.

Expensive lesson to learn. They are very cheap insurance and worth the cost of a small spanner.

So why did they never put the bloody things on defenders then?

I have absolutely no idea, but there is probably something in the system that does the same job.

I haven't got a RAVE CD for the Defenders to check, but I can find out.

Later CAV and Delphi filters combine the two functions with a fuel/water warning. I can only assume, in the absence of any other information, that these are what are fitted.

Aye the fuel filter. Same as the discos have. The tdi fuel filter has a drain off screw at the bottom for letting any acumulated water out, it's part of the regular servicing requirements. If the sedimenter was sposed to catch all that kind of **** why is there a facility to drain it from the fuel filter?

fuel filters have always protected the pump from water, I can testify to that from the number of dozers where the cnuts have pump contaminated fuel in from drums, it cant get past the filter, if it ever got full then the engine would lose power and eventually stop, but in relation to the sedementer it stores water, is in a stupid place, wont work coz the drain is nearly always siezed and will freeze up in the winte

Take the foker off and change your filters at the service intervals and it will be fine.

i fank you,but how/what would be the best way to bypass it? dont fancy splicing a piece in'would sooner replace a complete pipe if ness but which one?

I make it 10mm pipes, you need a short bit of rubber fuel pipe and sleeve it, dont get the stuff with the cord through it since its **** and goes hard.

Cut it with a stanley knife not a hacksaw, dont want **** in the pipe.

I dont see you serving any purpose trying to get it off with all the difficulties getting an adapter to fit the mangled ends at the end of the process.

It might be gravity fed so get all yur stuff ready or yul get soaked, but if you take the wheel off its a bit easier.

Its a disco I have and they are fairly capable with more comfort than a fender, and a bit more room in the back for my logs. But fenders are the dogs bollocks as you said for off road.
