Good evening all,

Recently removed the two seats in my 90 and now I'm left with several holes, see photos. There is obviously corrosion around the holes. My question is how would you go about sealing these up? My thought was to use some plastic bolt / sealant just to make it water tight and hopefully slow the corrosion down a little. Is there anything I can do to the corroded areas also? Any advice / product recommendations welcome. My plan is to seal it somehow carpet back over the top, then a board will be going on top so it needs to be flattish.

Personally if it isn't going to be seen I'd wire brush any corrosion off the aluminium, degrease, prime, and then seal with a top coat. Would just use a dome headed screw type fastener a couple of washers and a nyloc nut on the other side with a good dosage of sealant on everything. Then prime and paint that too so it's 100% water tight.

Personally I'd be inclined to use a nut and bolt and washers (with a drop of sticky stuff to keep the water out) rather than just gluing patches on.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm very new to this kind of thing I'm afraid. Could you point me towards some products for degrease, prime and top coat please NinkyNonk? Might need some recommendations on sealant too. Just want to make sure I do this right.

Thanks for your time all.

Put ali patched on shoving a steel.bolt in will cause electrolytic corrosion. I fink?

I just use IPA and wipe over the surface until the rag stays clean. Pretty new to Land Rovers myself too, but have a tin of special metal primer, some hammerite, and touch up paint the same colour as my Defender for external surfaces. A dust mask would be a wise investment, corroded aluminium is just dust and isn't overly healthy, it'll fly everywhere whilst wire brushing it.

You could use a grommet as suggested above, good thinking that person, simpler solution and will do the job just as well as a nut and bolt. May have to purchase the set linked above myself haha.
