just got shut of the freelander:D and got myself a 98 p38 vogue automatic, its been great all weekend but when i tried to ajust the seat tonight it popped the 30a fuse under the seat, put a fresh one in and it popped it again. it's too dark to start hitting things now so does anyone have any ideas on whether i am looking at a dodgy switch or a motor shorting to earth. even with no ignition there is a short and it arcs when you try to replace the fuse. oh, it's got the memory seats
cheers

So how did you sort it?? Its helpful to post the fix as it may help others in the future.

-Wills :)

sorry matey, got called out on a breakdown while i was on the computer last night so had to go.

i was getting a dead short off the wiring loom under the drivers seat so had no option but to remove the seat (which pillock at land rover decided to put the front torx bolts at such an awkward angle then shove a bloody screw in front of it)..after a hour and a trip to halfrauds for a long series torx key (size t40) i removed the seat unit and just tipped it back onto the rear seat after disconnecting the loom for the seat back from the becm.
now then i really should have took pictures but when i saw under the seat the air turned blue and to say i got a bit arsey was an understatement.
some prick in the past has been under the seat (not sure why though) and removed the blower trumpet? thingy that sits at the side and back of the becm. when they have put it back they didn't notice that it is screwed down to the floor so they have just pushed it in its socket at the front and left it loose. over time it has lifted up a bit and when the wife has moved the seat forward the other day the wiring loom to the tilt motor under the seat has got trapped between the frame and the plastic trumpet and cut the live feed and caused the dead short. 5 Min's with a soldering iron and shrink sleeve and job sorted. i spent a hour after tying all the wiring out of the way that was left hanging and as a bonus my electric headrest now works:D .
daughter is happy because i managed to get the TV working in the headrest (musta been a fluke because i didn't go near it);)

still not sure why the seat motors have a permanent live feed but as long as it works I'm not going to go into it too far

anyone know where i can get the soft rubber seal that sits between the bumper and the grill/wings? getting sick of pushing it back in every time i get out:rolleyes:
