My seat base has some angle steel bolted in two places. Are these common places to reinforce on a series seat base? Should I consider doing something similar when I've tidied it up and want to refit it? Or.. is it some mysterious bodge..? I can't see anything they are solving other than maybe adding some support..?

Never seen that, I wonder if it had a very heavy driver? Even if it needs reinforcment because of previous mods, I would do it with alunimum angle and rivet it to stop the galvanic corrosion.

That's Dexion angle, it was used to construct shelving in industrial settings, it has no place in a Land Rover. See if you can see why some previous owner has fitted it; is the seat box rusty?

By seat box do you mean under the passenger seat? As you can see, a bit, but no rot, only surface rust. I'll clean it up and paint it out inside before refitting it.

I'll look again but I can't see they serve any purpose and the seat base doesn't seem to be modded or cut about in any way so as to need them.

Rob's theory of a heavy driver with some spare angle laying about sounds reasonable. I won't refit anything like them unless on closer inspection I can see some reason for them. Just wondered if it's a common mod.

Yes to your first question, but the whole assembly that the seats are mounted on and no to your last one.

I doubt it was to help support a heavy driver. Anyone heavy enough to need the seat box modifying like that would not fit in a landrover. If you can't see any purpose in the mod, get rid.
