Just changed my 110's turbo to the one of my 90 (which was a really good unit before engine caught fire some time earlier in the summer).

The old unit had no power at all, and the replacement unit now does have decent amount of power but at the cost of a really loud screeching noise whenever the turbo is 'in'.

Anyone got any ideas on the problem? Is this one knackered too?

Thanks, Chris

Hi
Have you checked that there are no rips or holes in any of the pipes to/from the turbo?
Does it only screch on induction/acceleration?

Is it a real screech (ie metallic) or just a kind of flock-of-starlings-taking-off noise when you put your foot down above about 2000 revs? If the latter, then it's quite normal, if the former then there might be a problem with the turbine. Have you connected the oil pipe correctly, it needs oil as the spindle floats round on a film of oil which makes it almost frictionless!

Not got round to checking for split hoses (just been reading up on that across google!).

The screech is quite metallic sounding, yes. Positive i have connected oil pipes fine both at the block and at turbo unit.

If the turbine is not getting that film of oil, any way for me to chuck some in to lube it up manually, to see if noise goes away?

Over ten years old that's got to be a new record
Amazing. I’ve just had an email notification about this thread. I’ve not been on this forum for 10 plus years! How is everyone?
I can’t even remember the cure for mine. I think it ended up. Ring a belt causing the noise on mine.

Is that because you got wise and got out of land rovers?

Well I had Defender 200 tdi LWB 93L last of the 200. Then Disco’s 12,&3.
A couple of Landcruiser’s made me see the light. I did spend a big chunk of time fixing LR but never really had problems with Toyota.
